A juvenile Glaucous-winged Gull (Larus glaucescens) grovels and pleads to an adult who remains impassive.  The youngster calls pitifully during this encounter in downtown Anacortes, Washington.  These are city birds who allowed me to take the photo from about 10 feet (3 m) away.

  1. Ha that's a good shot! Saw what seemed to be a seagull fly over me in Rome this evening, but it's not by the sea? Also saw some hawks in the Italian Alps with a call like no hawk I've heard in North America, almost like a song bird! Back to to cool and damp Seattle soon, sigh.

  2. Rome. Italian Alps. Wow, that kayak must have taken a wrong turn somewhere!
